Free Download: Create MP3 Indices Including Song Lengths and Total Playing Time

Note: This tutorial assumes that extensions for known file types are not hidden. (1. Click Start. 2. Click Computer. 3. Click Organize. 4. Click Folder and search options…. 5. Click the View tab. 6. Make sure that Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked. 7. Click OK. 8. Close the Computer window.)

_MP3INDX.EXE (Download now) works with all versions of Windows, including Windows XP. It may be executed from Windows simply by double clicking on it’s icon or it’s shortcut.

Here is what you will see if you type _mp3indx /? on the DOS command line or double click on the icon of a .bat file containing the line _mp3indx /?:

Creates an index of all of the .MP3 files in a folder or on a CD-ROM including those in all levels of subfolders. The index, when printed out, is handy for use with a portable MP3 CD player, especially one which does not have the capability of displaying the file names. The index includes the "song length" of each .MP3 file and the total playing time for the entire folder or CD. _MP3INDX.EXE [Drive letter:\Folder] [/?] In order to include the optional parameters, [Drive letter:\Folder] or [/?] (help), simply create a text file with a ".bat" extension and double click it’s icon. Here is an example of the contents of such a .bat file: md "c:\My Music\MP3 CD Indices" _MP3INDX.EXE d:\ >"c:\My Music\MP3 CD Indices\SPM-2004.2-1.txt" Is a very good program for testing MP3 CDs, since it opens and reads from every MP3 file on the CD-ROM.
