And let me say this. Is there anything better than butter? Think it over. Every time you taste something that’s delicious beyond imagining, and you say, ‘What is in this?’ The answer is always going to be ‘butter.’ It’s incredible. … The day there’s a meteorite heading toward the earth and we have 30 days to live, I am going to spend it eating butter. Here’s my final word on the subject: You can never have too much butter. Meryl Streep playing Julia Child in the movie Julie & Julia (2009)

1. Add ¼ teaspoon of salt to a 4 cup (1 quart) microwavable bowl.

2. Add ½ teaspoon of powdered basil. (optional)

3. Add ½ teaspoon of powdered ginger. (optional)

4. Add ¼ teaspoon of asafeotida (available from East Indian grocery stores). (optional)

5. Add 2 teaspoons of curry powder.¹

6. Rock the bowl from side to side in order to distribute the salt and spices somewhat evenly.

7. Add 2 tablespoons (¼ stick) of butter.

8. Microwave until the butter is completely melted.

9. Rock the bowl from side to side until the salt / spices are wet with melted butter.

10. Add 2 cups of “cold cereal” such as corn flakes or wheat flakes.²

11. Add 8 ounces (1 cup) of milk in such a way that all of the cereal gets wet with milk.

12. Microwave on high until the mixture comes to a vigorous boil. (Microwave for 1½ minutes. Then microwave in 30 second intervals while watching very carefully lest it boil over.)

13. Mix, scraping the bottom so that all of the salt and spices are thoroughly mixed in.

14. Serve while still warm.

¹ If you don’t have any curry powder, then you can make your own: 3 parts ground coriander, 1 part ground red chili beans, 1 part ground cumin, 1 part ground fenugreek and 1 part turmeric powder.

² Instead of 2 cups of “flakes” cereal you could substitute ¾ cup of instant oatmeal, ½ cup of instant mashed potato flakes, ½ cup of “Gerber™ Rice Cereal for Baby,” or 2½ cups of a cereal such as Rice Chex™ or Crispix.™
