1. Buy a badminton set.

2. Throw away the poles, stakes and string.

3. Buy 4 short bungee cords.

4. Buy 4 steel barbed wire fence posts.

5. Buy 4 bolts, 4 nuts, and 4 lock washers.

6. Using a cut-off (chop) saw or hack saw, cut the bottoms off of 2 of the fence posts.

7. Bolt the bottoms of the cut-off fence posts to the tops of the other 2 posts to form 2 new posts approximately 7' long.

8. Using a sledge hammer, drive the posts into the ground so 5 ½' are left sticking out and far enough apart so that the badminton net can be supported by the 4 short bungee cords.

9. Using the bungee cords, suspend the net between the poles (The tops of the right and left ends of the net should be 5' 1" above the ground, and the top of the middle of the net should be exactly 5' above the ground.

10. Lay out the boundaries of the court using white polyethylene rope (for the lines), rain gutter spikes, and ¼" fender washers (Put the spikes through the washers and drive them into the ground at each corner to secure the ropes under the washers).

NOTE: As a substitute for one or both of the fence post assemblies, eye screws could be screwed into the side of a building or into a tree to support the bungee cords which support the net. Simply substitute bungee cords of the appropriate length, and adjust the height of the eye screws so that the height of the net is correct as stated in step #9 above.

Advantages of the Above Badminton Set-up

1. Kids running through the back yard won’t trip over the strings and knock the whole thing down in the middle of an exciting game.

2. You don’t have to take the net and poles down in order to mow the grass.

3. You can leave the net up all of the time without having to worry about the wind blowing it down.

4. If you do decide to take the net down for some reason, such as to make it easier to mow the grass, you can put it back up again in seconds.
