This recipe, according to the “P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor”
(US$24.98), requires 0.11 kilowatt-hours of electricity to prepare. This is only about one penny’s worth of electricity!
In order to prepare this recipe, you will need the “Double Layer Glass Microwave Cooker”1 (http://LLBest.com/EnergyEfficientCooking.htm).
(Makes 1 or 2 servings)
1. Put ⅔ cup of elbow macaroni2 into the 4 cup glass bowl.
2. Add ½ teaspoon of salt.
3. Add ½ teaspoon of black pepper.
4. Add 1 teaspoon of curry powder3.
5. Rock the bowl from side to side in order to distribute the salt and spices somewhat evenly.
6. Add 2 tablespoons (¼ stick) of butter.
7. Add ¾ cup1 of water. (If you plan on adding American style cheese or ½ of a package of powdered cheese in step #13 below, then add 1 cup1 of water instead of ¾ cup.)
8. Place the lid on the bowl, the bowl inside the 7 cup glass bowl, and the lid on that bowl also.
9. Microwave on high until the mixture comes to a vigorous boil.
10. Place the 2 pieces of glass pie bakeware on top, up-side-down.
11. Microwave at 1/10 power1 for 20 minutes1.
12. Do not drain4.
13. Using your fingers, break off chunks from a solid block of American style cheese5, such as Kraft® Velveeta,™ placing them on top of the elbow macaroni and mixing them with the macaroni so that all of the cheese melts. (optional)
14. Mix.
15. Keep covered until ready to serve.
1 Using this revolutionary cooker, the same amount of water, the same power level and the same cooking time will work with any and all microwave ovens, new or old, turntable or no turntable, guaranteed!
2 ½ cup of ordinary spaghetti could be substituted for the elbow macaroni, in which case the spaghetti should be broken up into pieces less than 2 inches long and oriented, in the measuring cup, as randomly as possible. After adding the water, make sure that all of the spaghetti is completely submerged. ½ cup of macaroni from a box of, for example, “Kraft® Macaroni & Cheese Dinner,” could also be substituted in which case the extra macaroni could be stored in a Ziploc® bag.
3 If you don’t have any curry powder, then substitute ½ teaspoon ground turmeric, ¼ teaspoon ground cumin and ¼ teaspoon ground coriander.
4 An added bonus of using the “Double Layer Glass Microwave Cooker” method is that you don’t have to drain away any of the nutrients.
5 A great substitute for American style cheese is 4 ounces (½ of an 8 ounce block) of cream cheese. Another great substitute is ½ of a package (2 tablespoons) of powdered cheese from a box of, for example, “Kraft® Macaroni & Cheese Dinner,” in which case an additional ¼ cup of water should have been added in step #7 above. (No need to add any milk, margarine, or additional butter.)
