Any of the following true of you?
1. No time to wash dishes.
2. No time to eat in restaurants.
3. Not much time to cook.
4. Not much time for grocery shopping.
If so, then this recipe may be for you!
Don’t let the simplicity of this recipe fool you. It is incredibly delicious. It requires only 6 ingredients. It uses a disposable paper bowl1 and a disposable plastic spoon1 as the only cooking / eating utensils. None of the ingredients are perishable, so grocery shopping is minimized.
1. Using a disposable plastic spoon1 add 4 heaping spoonfuls peanut butter to a 20-oz. microwavable paper bowl1 by rubbing the spoon against the sides of the bowl.
2. Add 4 heaping spoonfuls of your favorite jam or jelly. (optional)
3. Add ½ of a 12 oz. can of evaporated milk2. (Before opening the can, shake it well. Also, for the sake of accurate measurement, remove the top completely.)
4. Add ⅓ cup of instant oatmeal3.
5. Add a liberal amount of shredded coconut4. (optional)
6. Add some of golden raisins5.
7. Mix, using the plastic spoon.
8. Microwave on high for 1 minute.
9. Mix.
10. Microwave on high for 30 seconds or until the mixture begins to boil over.
11. Mix.
12. Repeat step #10 and #11 until the mixture begins to boil over.
13. If no jam or jelly was added in step #2, add some honey. (optional)
14. Mix.
15. Serve while still warm.
16. Serve with butterscotch morsels4 as a condiment. (optional)
1 At Wal-Mart®, I’ve purchased Dixie® brand 20-oz. microwavable paper bowls in packages of 30 for US$3.38 and Diamond® brand plastic spoons in packages of 48 for US$1.14.
2 Evaporated milk actually makes better tasting cereal than regular milk because it’s thicker. If you don’t have any, then ¾ cup of water plus ½ cup of powdered milk could be substituted.
3 A package of Nabisco® Instant Cream of Wheat Original or a package of instant grits (available at Super Wal-Mart®) could be substituted for the instant oatmeal. For a special treat, substitute ⅔ cup of granola for the oatmeal, shredded coconut, and golden raisins.
4 If you serve the preparation with butterscotch morsels as a condiment, you might want to omit the jam/jelly, the shedded coconut and/or the honey. Otherwise the preparation may be too sweet.
5 For a special treat, substitute Welch’s® Cranberries & Spiced Apples for the golden raisins.
