Travelin’ Recipe: Macaroni & Cheese

This recipe assumes that you have access to a microwave oven on the road. It uses a microwavable, disposable paper bowl* and a disposable plastic spoon* as the only cooking / eating utensils. It’s the fastest, easiest way to prepare a jumbo sized serving of macaroni and cheese while traveling.


1. Into a 20-oz. microwavable, disposable paper bowl*, add ¾ cup (6 oz.) of water. (No need for a measuring cup. Fill to the bottom of the Dixie® logo.)

2. Add a macaroni package (not a cheese package) from a box of Kraft® Easy Mac Big Packs® Macaroni & Cheese Dinner.

3. Microwave using medium power (power high enough for the water to come to a boil, but low enough so that it doesn’t boil over) for 5 minutes.

4. Do not drain.

5. Add a cheese package.

6. Mix thoroughly using a disposable plastic spoon* (which will later be used for eating).

8. Mix in a liberal amount of curry powder (optional).


* At Wal-Mart®, I’ve purchased Dixie® brand 20-oz. microwavable paper bowls in packages of 30 for US$3.38 and Diamond® brand plastic spoons in packages of 48 for US$1.14.
