This tutorial assumes the following 3 things:
1. That extensions for known file types are not hidden. (1. Click Start / My Documents. 2. Click Tools / Folder Options…. 3. Click the View tab. 4. Make sure that Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.)
2. That you have Notepad2 or a shortcut to it on your desktop.

The best way to explain what this free download does is to see an example. Therefore, go to http://llbest.com/SRTsubtitles.htm?SI=1, and click . Then compare the sample SRT file in TextBox1 with the enhanced version in TextBox4. This free download does exactly the same thing, except that it does it without any tedious copy / pasting, and it does it for multiple SRT files, including all of the SRT files in subfolders, in one fell swoop!
The free download includes a Perl program called _SRTsubtitleEnhance.bat and a sample SRT subtitle file in ANSI format (_SRTsubtitleEnhance.test). Both files are contained in a .rar file called __SRTsubtitles.rar - Download now (2.12 KB).
Caution: Be sure to keep unchanged versions of all of the SRT subtitle files that you enhance. The backups should be in a separate folder, or, better yet, on a different drive.
1. Multiple SRT subtitle files can be enhanced in one fell swoop.
2. STR files can be a mixture of ANSI (ANSI_X3.4-1986), ISO-8859-1, Windows-1252 (CP1252), and UTF-8 format.
3. ANSI, ISO-8859-1, and Windows-1252 files are automatically converted to UTF-8.
4. A log file is created which contains detailed statistics on all of the changes made.
1. Use WinRAR to uncompress __SRTsubtitles.rar to a folder called __SRTsubtitles:
2. Then double click the _SRTsubtitleEnhance.bat file, and if Perl was installed correctly, there should now be 4 files in the folder instead of 2:
Note: Although you can’t tell from the above example, a .log file is created for every .srt file which is enhanced. Each .log file name will be the same as the corresponding .srt file name. For example, if a subtitle file named Ghost (1990).srt is enhanced, then the corresponding log file will be named Ghost (1990).log.
The .bat file contains the following in lines 13 through 15:
The .bat file contains the following in lines 17 through 19:
Now you are ready to automatically enhance any number of SRT files in one fell swoop:
1. Copy the SRT files to a temporary folder such as C:\Temp2.
2. Copy the _SRTsubtitleEnhance.bat file to that same folder.
3. Double click the _SRTsubtitleEnhance.bat file's icon. If all goes according to plan, all of the SRT files will now be enhanced automatically!
4. Be sure to keep backup copies of the original versions of the SRT files until you are sure that the enhancements were done correctly.
Note: Another way to enhance SRT subtitle files, albeit one file at a time, is to do it on-line using:
