Make sure that Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked. 7. Click OK. 8. Close the Computer window.)

File name:

The Matrix (the original soundtrack) - 13 - Rage Against The Machine - Wake.MP3

File name with correct title capitalization:

The Matrix (The Original Soundtrack) - 13 - Rage against the Machine - Wake.mp3

How would you like to have a program which automatically corrects improperly capitalized MP3/WMA file names such as the above example? You drag an MP3 or a WMA file to the program’s icon (or to the program’s shortcut), and presto—the file is renamed! You drag a folder to the program’s icon, and presto—all of the MP3 and/or WMA files in that folder are renamed!

Now you can have such a program. It’s free and it’s called “Rename MP3, Title Case.exe” (Download now).

FEATURES

1. All three programs (including the 2 mentioned below) work with all versions of Windows, including Windows XP.

2. An “undo” file in the form of a DOS batch file (“UNDO.BAT”) is created in the same folder as the renamed MP3/WMA files. If you don’t like the way in which the MP3/WMA files were changed, simply double click on the “UNDO.BAT” file’s icon, and the files will be restored to their original names.

3. “(,” “),” “[,” “],” “{” “},” “; ” (semicolon space), and “ - ” (space dash space) are assumed to divide the MP3/WMA file name into separate titles such as “artist,” “album,” “album qualifier,” “track number,” “title,” “alternate title,” etc.

4. “’” (apostrophe), “_,” and “-” characters in addition to a-z, A-Z, and 0-9 may be included within words.

5. Words may also include foreign characters, such as “ý,” “æ,” “Õ,” “Û,” etc., but the “UNDO.BAT” batch file may not work for file names containing such characters.

6. All other characters are considered “word boundary characters”: “ ” (space), “;,” etc.

7. Except for 134 special words/phrases, such as “the,” “a,” “of,” etc., upper case characters are left unchanged. This is so that “BB King,” for example, is not incorrectly converted to “Bb King,” and so that “Part II” is not incorrectly converted to “Part Ii,” etc.

8. The first and last words of a title are always capitalized.

9. Every MP3/WMA file rename which is performed is documented on the screen. This documentation may be saved to a file by creating a text file named “Rename MP3, Title Case.bat” containing the following line:

(Assuming that “Rename MP3, Title Case.exe” is in the folder, “C:\DOSSTUFF”)

Simply drag and drop the MP3/WMA files/folders to the “Rename MP3, Title Case.bat” file’s icon or shortcut instead of the “Rename MP3, Title Case.exe” file’s icon. Then double click the “Rename MP3, Title Case.txt” file’s icon (in the C:\DOSSTUUF folder) to see the program’s output.

10. This program was tested on thousands of downloaded MP3/WMA files, and it converts them to the correct title case 99+% of the time.

QUESTION

I’ve got 157 .txt files in a folder called “C:\TEXT.” Is there any way to use “Rename MP3, Title Case.exe” to rename them to proper title case?

ANSWER

1. Within the C:\TEXT folder, create a text file named “txt2mp3.bat” containing the following:

2. Double click the “txt2wma.bat” icon.

3. From outside of the C:\TEXT folder, drag and drop the folder’s icon on top of the “Rename MP3, Title Case” icon.

4. Within the C:\TEXT folder, create a text file named “wma2txt.bat” containing the following:

5. Double click the “wma2txt.bat” icon.

6. Done!

The following 2 programs are also included in the download:

“Rename MP3, Upper Case.exe” - Renames MP3/WMA files to all upper case.

“Rename MP3, Lower Case.exe” - Renames MP3/WMA files to all lower case.

NOTE: If you don’t notice any changes to the MP3 or WMA file after dragging and dropping the file onto one of the above three program’s icons, try clicking “View/Refresh.”

Questions, comments and suggestions are welcome.
