Editorial: Choosing an Email Subject

I find emails such as the one quoted below to be very encouraging. However, as you can well imagine, since I have published my email address on every one of my web pages, I get a lot of “junk” email. Therefore, if any of you send me an email message, do not use a subject such as “Thank you.” I usually assume that emails with such non-descript titles are junk, and simply delete them without reading them. A better choice for the subject of the following email would have been, “Thanks for Your _replace.exe Program.”

I have found it of use and have replaced a string in 38,000 files in one folder making over 150,000 replacements. Many years ago I wrote a similar program in GWbasic but your version is more elegant. I did not even try to resurrect my version as I am not sure if it would have coped. I have spent some time looking at your site and you have a great range of interesting subjects.
