Green Recipe: Perfect Green Split Pea Soup Every Time, Using Very Little Energy

This recipe, according to the “P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor” (US$24.98), requires 0.24 kilowatt-hours of electricity to prepare. This is only about 3 cents worth of electricity!

My favorite soup is pea soup made from green split peas, salt, spices, and nothing else. Therefore, it has very low LDL (bad) cholesterol.

The problem is, if I make it on the stove in the conventional way, it takes a lot of energy, because it requires more than 1 hour to cook. Another problem is that it has a tendency to get scorched, especially if I forget to stir it regularly. Also, since I like it “well done,” in other words, “nice and thick,” it has an even greater tendency to become scorched. If it does get scorched, the only way to fix it is to start all over again with a clean pot, which, needless to say, can get very frustrating!

The solution to both the energy problem and the scorching problem is to cook it in the “Double Layer Glass Microwave Cooker”¹ (http://llbest.com/?P=4m). Then I can, “Set it and forget it.” Even if all of the water boils away, the peas WILL NOT BECOME SCORCHED!

(Makes 1 to 2 servings)

1. Put ½ cup of green split peas into the 4 cup glass bowl.

2. Wash the peas once or twice.

3. Add 1¼ cups¹ of water.

4. Add ½ teaspoon of salt.

5. Add ½ teaspoon of ground ginger.

6. Add ½ teaspoon of ground turmeric.

7. Add ¼ teaspoon of ground cumin.

8. Add ¼ teaspoon of ground coriander.

9. Place the lid on the bowl, the bowl inside the 7 cup glass bowl, and the lid on that bowl also.

10. Microwave on high until the mixture comes to a vigorous boil.

11. Place the 2 pieces of glass pie bakeware on top, up-side-down.

12. Microwave at ⅒ power¹ for 60 minutes¹.

13. Stir.

14. If the soup is too thick, mix in small amounts of water until the desired consistency is achieved.

15. Serve while still warm².

¹ Using this revolutionary cooker, the same amount of water, the same power level and the same cooking time will work with any and all microwave ovens, new or old, turntable or no turntable, guaranteed!

² This preparation will be just as good, or perhaps even better, the next day after being refrigerated and reheated.
