“Better late than never.” I’ve finally got the re-installation of Windows XP down to a relatively quick, relatively easy exact science!
These instructions are mostly for me. I’m 64 years old, so my memory is not as good as it used to be. For my own purposes, I wouldn’t need so much detail, but I’ve made this step-by-step tutorial very detailed for the benefit of others who might find it useful.
I already have a legal copy of Windows XP which came with my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, but I like to use the Gold Cobra version instead because it doesn’t require a “CD key,” and it automatically installs all of the important audio / video codecs and a number of very useful utility and application programs. It also eliminates the Windows XP pop-up messages which are pretty much useless, and which I find to be extremely annoying! The result is the fastest, most stable PC that I’ve ever owned!
Here is some information on the Gold Cobra version of Windows XP which I copied from another website:
1. Run “BackupEverythingToDriveG.bat” (on desktop):
2. Put the Gold Cobra CD into the CD/DVD drive.
3. Power down the laptop.
4. Unplug all USB devices except for the mouse.
5. Boot up off the CD. (Press the space bar when the message “Press any key to boot off the CD..” appears.)
6. Install Gold Cobra:
7. Right click on “RocketDock” (the function/program selector at the top of the screen) and click “Quit.”
8. Right click on the analog clock in the upper right-hand corner of the screen and click “Close Gadget.”
9. Right click on the uTorrent window (right side of screen) and click “Close Gadget.”
10. Right click on the large basket icon (right side of screen) and click “Close Gadget.”

22. Remove the “Dell Device Driver” CD and reboot.
23. Plug in “USB flash drive F.”
24. Change the drive letter of “USB flash drive F” from E to F:
25. Plug in USB hard drive G.
