How-to Tip: Fast, Efficient Dusting

(Dusting Made Fast and Easy)

It’s especially satisfying to hit the duster against a flat surface outside in the sun with a background that’s in the shade, so you can see the clouds of dust that this action produces!

The following method of dusting is something which I learned from my wife.

THE PROBLEM

Most people, when they “dust the surfaces,” use a can of spray furniture polish such as Pledge, and a dust cloth. This works fairly well until they have to dust something with a lot of nooks and crannies, or when they have to dust the edges of books in a book case, especially when there’s not enough room for a hand to squeeze in between the top of the book and the next shelf up. Besides, why would you want to get wax on the edges of your books? You certainly wouldn’t want to use a damp cloth on them either, would you?

THE SOLUTION

A better method is to purchase a can of non-wax cleaning and dusting spray, such as Endust, and a wool duster (similar to a feather duster, but works much better), which can be purchased from a kitchen specialty store, or even from Walmart.

Spray some Endust onto the wool duster, and dust as you would with a feather duster. When the duster becomes saturated with dust, take it outside and beat it against the deck railing, or other flat surface (Be careful not to break it!). Then spray some more Endust onto it, and repeat the process.

I’ve found that this is the fastest and easiest method for cleaning all of my horizontal surfaces, and can even be used to easily remove “cob webs” from the corners of the ceiling.

This dusting method is not only very fast and efficient, but it also makes dusting fun! It’s especially satisfying to hit the duster against a flat surface outside in the sun with a background that’s in the shade, so you can see the clouds of dust that this action produces!

I find myself looking for excuses to show off this superior dusting method to other people, and I even find myself looking for excuses to dust my own little cottage!
