Want something to munch on while watching your latest movie download? Tired of popcorn? Here’s a recipe that’s a delicious substitute. It only uses 3 main ingredients: American style cheese, milk, and “cold” cereal.
Let’s minimize the number of dirty dishes. Two is all that you need, a bowl and a spoon! In order to accomplish this you are going to need a kitchen scale. I got mine from Walmart.™ If I stick a big heavy bowl on top of it, I can zero it in seconds. It costs about US$9.50. The brand is Mainstays™, and it has a 7 pound weighing capacity:
Do not get an electronic scale. They automatically turn off too quickly, and are therefore useless for the method described below.
Makes 1 serving
1. Add ½ teaspoon of salt to a 4 cup (1 quart) microwavable bowl .
2. Add ¼ teaspoon of asafeotida (available from East Indian grocery stores). (optional)
3. Add ½ teaspoon of ginger powder.
4. Add 2 teaspoons of curry powder.*
5. Rock the bowl from side to side so as to distribute the salt and spices somewhat evenly.
6. Put the bowl on top of your kitchen scale and zero it.
7. Using your fingers, break off small pieces from a solid block of American style cheese, such as Kraft™ Velveeta,™ until 4 ounces have been added (1 cup).
8. Zero the scale.
9. Add milk until 2⅔ ounces have been added (⅓ cup).
10. Microwave until the mixture comes to a vigorous boil. (Microwave for 1 minute. Then microwave in 30 second intervals while watching very closely lest the mixture boil over.)
11. Quickly stir, scraping the bottom so that all of the salt/spices get thoroughly mixed in, until the cheese is completely liquefied. (Now you have a delicious cheese dip which could also be used as a condiment for raw celery, etc.)
12. Fill the bowl to the top with a crunchy cereal such as Rice Chex.™
13. Push the cereal down into the cheese mixture.
14. Again, fill the bowl to the top with more cereal.
15. Using a spoon, eat directly from the bowl, mixing the cereal with the cheese as you eat.
16. Enjoy the movie!
* If you don’t have any curry powder, then you can make your own: 3 parts ground coriander, 1 part ground turmeric, 1 part ground cumin, 1 part ground fenugreek and 1 part ground red chili beans.
